What is ketamine?

Ketamine is a medication that has been shown to produce positive mental health outcomes when taken in a controlled setting. It is FDA approved as an anesthetic and increasingly prescribed for treatment of anxiety, depression, and a number of other mental health disorders. Prescription of a medication that has not specifically been approved for a patients’ symptoms is known as “off-label prescription”–it is both legal and common, with one in five prescriptions written for off-label use in the U.S.
